Cue the confetti! She Picks Up Pennies, otherwise known as the little slice of cyberspace that you’re currently visiting, is a finalist for the 2017 Plutus Awards. Specifically, my blog was nominated in the best frugality blog category.
Whaaaaaaat? I know. That was my exact thought when I first found out as well. Actually, I was so wholly convinced my eyes were playing tricks on me at 2 am (hey, when a baby wants to eat, no one sleeps), I double and triple checked my email and then read it aloud to my husband.
So, you might win a money awards thing. That’s huge! Close, Mr. P. Close.
What Mr. P meant to say was this:
The annual Plutus Awards celebrate the best in financial media. This year marks the eighth annual event, and the ceremony will be presented live at the FinCon Expo in Dallas, Texas, on October 28. See? Huge! What makes the nomination even more unbelievable are the other finalists: Busy Budgeter, Club Thrifty, Frugal Woods, and Money Smart Family. These are some of my very favorite blogs in the personal finance world. I feel a lot like a B team high school basketball player who is suddenly competing against Lebron. No, Kobe. No, Michael Jordan.
Just kidding. I don’t feel anything like a basketball player because I don’t know the first thing about basketball.

Still, the most exciting thing about this nomination is the fact that it came from readers, bloggers, and a panel of personal finance experts. I may not know everything about money. I definitely haven’t mastered the fine art of frugality in its entirety. But I do know that this is such an honor, and I’m truly grateful.
For those of you who are headed there, I’ll see you at FinCon, excited and frugally awkward in the flesh.
