  1. Congrats! How exciting for you and Mr. P! YES, you’ll get to buy shoes….but don’t buy too much. We had so many cute outfits for Little Bit that she wore 1-2 times before she grew out of them. In July, you’ll need t-shirts and diapers.maybe one cute outfit for pictures, but I’m sure the grandparents will provide.

    • We’re trying to be really strategic and smart! I’m combing through archives of my favorite bloggers. And I know some people argue against a shower, but when I mentioned it, I made my aunt cry. It’s been over a decade since there’s been a baby in the family, so I’m going to be gracious and happy with whatever they decide to do for us!

  2. Congratulations! I know what you mean about nothing tasting the same-when I was pregnant with my third all I wanted was gummy bears. I got a big bag at BJ’s and tore through it like crazy. I’m surprised he wasn’t born a gummy bear! ?

    • I’m trying to be reasonable. We will see how that goes! My sister in law (well, mostly her husband!) is so excited because he thinks this is the perfect excuse to empty THEIR basement of the things their kids have outgrown ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Ha! I just bought five organic burp clothes for $3. I am so proud of me. And if someone would have told me that I would be typing this comment a few years back, I would have never believed them!

    • Thanks, Donna! We are thrilled, too. It has been so hard to not blog about it until now. But since one of my coworkers follows me (yay!), I wanted to make sure my bosses knew first!

  3. Amanda @ My Life, I Guess...

    Amazing!!! Congratulations you guys!!

My sister found out before Christmas that she’s expecting – she’s due at the end of June. It’ll be the first baby out my siblings and I, and I cannot wait!!

    • The current dilemma is deciding how I take my leave. I can use sick days for part of my leave if I want to do so. The drawback to that is then I cannot apply the sick days toward my retirement (or use them if Baby or I get sick later). But I don’t know that I’m going to want to take a totally unpaid leave either. Seems like a good blog post to get ideas from people who are much wiser than I am! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Congrats! That is so awesome! I’m so happy for you. Have fun with your planning/dreaming/ and joy. Good luck with the morning sickness. I was horribly ill with both my pregnancies. But I just kept telling myself, “As long as I’m puking, the baby is doing great!”

    • Ms. Montana, you hit the nail on the head! I’m feeling a bit more like myself now that I’m into the second trimester. But not really! On days when I do feel good, though, I send myself into a tizzy with worry. The doctor told me worrying now is good preparation for the rest of my life as a mom ๐Ÿ˜‰

  5. Congratulations – so excited for both of you (and your parents too!) I had my first in July too ๐Ÿ˜‰ Glad you’ve been able to handle school. I remember waiting for class periods to end worrying I might get sick! I bet your kids at school will be so excited too!

    • Yay for summer babies! We’re such teachers. ๐Ÿ™‚ I am going to wait a bit longer to tell my students. I’m not showing, and I’d hate to have to give them bad news if anything happened. Aaaannnnnd…they’re currently in the middle of their “miracle of life” health unit. How’s THAT for an awkward post in the making?! HA!

  6. So very many congrats to you and Mr. P.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m super-excited to follow along on your journey. We’ve chosen not to have kids, but that doesn’t mean we don’t love the cute pictures and hilarious things the little guys say. I have a feeling yours will be a riot.

    • I feel like I’m going to get everything I gave my parents tenfold! We were pretty ambivalent about kids until last year. Then, we both started to get on the same page…and the rest is history. I’m thrilled for this new chapter, but I totally appreciate and understand the DINK lifestyle, too. Honestly, it makes me thrilled to know people are doing what is right for them wherever they land with family size!

  7. Congrats!!! Is this why you’re thinking about life insurance and stuff?! ? It’d be cool if the baby was born on the 1st, 7th, 11th, or 17th of July!

    • They told us the 20th and then the 16th. So you might have picked the date right on the nose!

I wrote the life insurance post before I knew I was expecting, but you had better believe all that grown up stuff is on my mind! I have six months to figure out how to adult for real! Ha!

    • We are, too! We loved being a duo. We really did. Four years of being married together and focused on each other and traveling and gardening was exactly what we wanted. And now we’re ready for the next chapter!

  8. Congratulations!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Such exciting news! Thanks for sharing with us and I can’t wait to follow your journey into parenthood.

I couldn’t eat leftovers during pregnancy, plus I constantly craved restaurant food – not good for frugality.

    • I have singlehandedly destroyed so many different parts of our budget! Like the one day when I suddenly couldn’t stand the smell of my shampoo, condition, or soap. I started crying in the middle of my shower, dried myself off, got dressed, and drove to Walgreens and paid full price for fragrance free EVERYTHING. Whoops.

  9. Congratulations! Parenthood is going to bring for you the best of times and the worst of times, but really mostly the best.

And oh boy you are right about the shoes. Their feet grow like crazy when they are toddlers.

    • We are bracing ourselves, reminding each other that we know nothing, and hope to learn A LOT from others and as we go.

I’m trying to remind myself to go easy on the “stuff” since so much of it gets outgrown so quickly. Thanks for the reminder!

    • Google has been terrifying. The best advice my doctor has given me so far has been “If you can type it in Google, you can type it in a message to our office.”

You were the first person I thought of…half pence! ๐Ÿ™‚

        • That’s the sweetest offer ever! We can talk more. I will DM you. I don’t want to inconvenience you. And I think your advice will be invaluable! <3

    • Thank you, Gwen! I don’t know that I was ever one of those people that always knew she wanted to be a mom. But I honestly don’t want anything more right now!

  10. OMG!!!!! I am so excited for you both!!! I have been flying all day and unable to read anything but I had to sneak a peek after I saw your Twitter hints. So exciting!!!! I wish you all the best and a happy new year but it seems that is already happening!! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • I can’t wait! I think I still have a month or so to go until the baby could actually hear the books. I already talk to my stomach and Mr. P laughs endlessly about it (or at me).

    • And so much to learn! I feel like my students teach me new things every day about life. I cannot wait to learn from my own kiddo! Thank you, ZJ!

    • Thank you, Francesca. I was going to do something more creative, but I’m just out of steam. I took it from my iPhone and we did it in exactly one take. Done and done!
